Position Overview

The Compost Company is seeking a motivated, relationship-driven Sales & Business Development Representative to help expand our commercial composting program. This outside sales role focuses on recruiting new business customers—such as restaurants, grocery stores, schools, offices, and food manufacturers—into our organics recycling service. The ideal candidate has experience in B2B sales, understands sustainability and waste reduction initiatives, and thrives on building long-term partnerships with local businesses.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Sales:

  • Identify and target prospective commercial clients across foodservice, grocery, institutional, and corporate sectors.
  • Conduct on-site visits, presentations, and waste assessments to demonstrate the value of composting services.
  • Develop tailored service proposals and pricing for each client based on volume and collection frequency.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified leads using CRM tools.
  • Achieve monthly and quarterly sales targets related to new account sign-ups and revenue growth.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact during onboarding and early service phases.
  • Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to ensure smooth service setup and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships to encourage account retention and program expansion.
  • Gather feedback from customers to identify opportunities for service improvement or new product offerings.

Community Engagement & Education:

  • Represent The Compost Company at sustainability fairs, industry events, and community presentations.
  • Partner with local organizations, municipalities, and business associations to promote composting awareness.
  • Support marketing initiatives, including customer success stories and case studies.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in outside B2B sales, account management, or business development.
  • Proven success meeting or exceeding sales goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confident public speaker.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement provided).

Preferred:

  • Background in environmental services, waste management, or sustainability programs.
  • Familiarity with CRM software (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce).
  • Existing network of relationships within hospitality, retail, or foodservice industries.

Performance Metrics (KPIs)

– New commercial accounts activated per month
– Total new monthly service revenue generated
– Client retention and satisfaction rates
– Community engagement events or partnerships established
